BAYWOOD BULLETIN MAY 2022!

CHECK OUT OUR NEW KENTUCKY-NEVADA BUTTERFLY ISLAND!

We have been updating you on our first "Baywood Butterfly Island" project...and we're ready to unveil it! BNA Board Member Teresa Rose has been working with Baywood artists John Sutti and Jim Murphy, the City of San Mateo and nearby neighbors to transform the island at Kentucky and Nevada into a celebration of Baywood's butterflies and native plants. The plan is to enhance each of the islands around Baywood over time with native plants and artwork inspired by the setting. We are so excited to share the first one with you! Save the date for Saturday, June 11th, at 1pm at the Kentucky and Nevada Island to celebrate. Bring a neighbor with you to join in the fun. Our City Council Member, Eric Rodriguez will be there! Bring cookies, lemonade or your treat of choice to share. Feel free to stop by the Island in the meantime to check it out. We are so grateful to all our partners for this wonderful collaboration and we look forward to getting your input into future Baywood Island projects!

BNA MOTHER'S DAY DIAPER DONATION DRIVE FOR SAMARITAN HOUSE HUGE SUCCESS!

On behalf of our Baywood Neighborhood Association Board, Samaritan House and all the San Mateo mothers who will breathe a little easier because they don't have to pay for expensive diapers, THANK YOU! We collected nearly 6,000 diapers in just one week and showed what our Baywood neighborhood can do!

Your generosity enabled us to make two mad dashes to Costco and almost wipe out their Large and Extra Large diapers:-) Your caring built up an enormous pile of diapers, baby toys, clothes, accessories and food in our front courtyard. Your willingness to pitch in got all of this over to Samaritan House. A great group of Baywood neighbors formed a caravan to deliver the diapers to Samaritan House in record time.

The real need for these diapers was demonstrated by the fact that all the diapers were given to moms and families within one hour after we delivered them!

Our mission at Baywood Neighborhood Association is to find ways to bring our community together and celebrate what a vibrant, caring neighborhood Baywood is. Your participation in this Mother's Day Diaper Drive for Samaritan House is the best example of this.

We really can't say thank you enough...and we send apologies to anyone who went shopping for XLarge diapers at Costco right after we were there!

JOIN THE ANNUAL BAYWOOD NEIGHBORHOOD YARD SALE JUNE 18TH!

The 9th Annual Baywood Neighborhood Yard Sale will be held Saturday, June 18, 9am-2pm. This event continues to be a community favorite typically drawing more than 200 excited bargain and treasure seekers from all over the Bay Area.

Our Baywood Neighborhood Yard Sale, organized by your Baywood Neighborhood Association (BNA), helps Baywood residents promote the sale of items they no longer need. Residents can sell items from their front yard or team up with other Baywood neighbors and consolidate at one of their homes. So start cleaning out your garage, attic and closets in preparation for this fun event. Get rid of that set of chairs that no longer fit in your family room, those surplus/unneeded tools, those toys that your children no longer play with!

BNA will create a map of all participating sellers and promote it on social media, Craigslist and in our Baywood Bulletin monthly email. We also will place banners around Baywood to get people excited about our Yard Sale.

How To Participate

  • Identify what goods you want to sell.

  • Assemble a summary list of types of items that will be in your sale.

  • Notify us of your interest to participate by June 13th by sending an email to: baywoodneighborhood@gmail.com. Include the summary list of items, your address and contact information (include phone # and email).

For those homeowners that choose to donate all or a portion of their sale proceeds to a meaningful nonprofit charity (and they notify us of it), we will acknowledge their donations in our next newsletter.

If you want to participate, are interested in helping to organize our Baywood Yard Sale, or just want more information, please drop us a line at baywoodneighborhood@gmail.com.

We hope you have fun cleaning out your closets and look forward to seeing you at the Baywood Neighborhood Yard Sale on June 18!

TELL PARKS & REC YOU WANT PICNIC TABLES IN BAY TREE PARK!

We have had many requests from Baywood neighbors to make Bay Tree Park a more "usable" park. The first idea we are discussing with San Mateo Parks & Recreation Dept. is to install a few picnic tables so that people can spend more time enjoying our beautiful park.

If you agree with us that installing a few picnic tables in Bay Tree Park is a good idea, please send an email to parksandrecreation@cityofsanmateo.org today and tell them. If we speak up together, we can make Bay Tree Park an even more enjoyable place for everyone.

Thank you for sending a supportive email today and telling your neighbors to do the same!

ANOTHER FIRST SATURDAY, ANOTHER GREAT BAYWOOD COFFEE SOCIAL!

As Spring begins to peak through and San Mateo winds begin to subside, we had another wonderful 1st Saturday of the Month Baywood Coffee Social on May 7th!

These Coffee Socials have turned into a regular neighborhood event since we started them late last year. It's such a great way to catch up with old friends and meet new ones. Corn Hole has become a favorite game for kids at the Socials and so many great dogs have dropped by as well. That's what neighborhoods should be about!

Thanks to the generosity of our neighbors who have signed up as BNA members. Everyone is always welcome, but joining our association at https://www.baywoodneighborhood.org/become-a-member-now will make future events like this possible.

Bring your dogs, kids, bikes, scooters and sense of adventure! See you at the next Coffee Social, Saturday, June 4, 9am-11am, at Bay Tree Park, 150 Dartmouth Road...and bring a friend or two!
