HAPPY 4TH OF JULY TO EVERYONE!

ree

We wish all our neighbors and very happy and SAFE 4th of July with family and friends.  Please remember it is ILLEGAL to shoot off fireworks in San Mateo.

San Mateo will hold its annual 4th of July celebration in Central Park.  The program and salute to the flag will begin at 11am.  A special "Music In The Park" concert will begin at noon.

All Music In The Park concerts this year will happen at Fitzgerald Field (the baseball field) due to the Central Park Playground reconstruction.

Happy 4th!

PARROTT DRIVE & ALAMEDA DE LAS PULGAS INTERSECTION UPDATE

ree

As the highest priority identified in the Baywood Neighborhood’s Traffic Action Plan, the intersection of Parrott Drive and Alameda de las Pulgas is scheduled for permanent safety improvements. This project will transition current temporary measures into permanent and lasting improvements designed to enhance pedestrian safety.

The project features:

  • New pavement markings

  • Improved centerline striping to better support bus movements

  • New "KEEP CLEAR" markings to improve the connection to Columbia Dr

  • Reinstallation of second southbound through lane

  • Pavement coatings to better define pedestrian spaces

  • Replacement of existing temporary delineators with lower-profile rubberized curbs and surface-mounted flexible posts to enhance aesthetics and provide a more durable treatment for the closed free-right turn areas

Construction will begin the week of July 28 and last for about 1 week. Construction hours will be from 7:30am to 4:30 pm and will include intermittent lane closures.

A postcard was mailed to nearby residents and emails sent to residents who had attended past project meetings or filled out the project’s online survey. Please watch for any updates at www.cityofsanmateo.org/3129/Baywood.

VISIT NEW WEEKLY SUNDAY FARMERS MARKET IN DRAEGERS PARKING LOT!

ree

The West Coast Farmers Market has launched its newest location in downtown San Mateo in the former Draeger's Parking Lot at 222 E. 4th Avenue. West Coast Farmers Market offers a curated selection of fresh produce, prepared foods, and food trucks. The market will operate 9am to 2pm every Sunday from now until at least October 2025.

Having a Farmers Market in downtown San Mateo has been a top request from Baywood residents. Please stop by regularly to support our downtown Farmers Market. It will expand or contract based on how many people visit. You have the power to make this a delicious, new addition to our downtown. See you every Sunday at the Farmers Market!

CITYWIDE HISTORIC RESOURCES PROGRAM UPDATE

ree

On June 2nd, City Council approved the development of a citywide Historic Resources Program. This policy update will include the preparation of a citywide Historic Context Statement to provide a narrative about architectural and development trends that have shaped the City and share information about events that are significant to the City’s history.

It also will develop an Historic Resources Ordinance to detail 1) how the City will treat the renovation or demolition of potentially historic buildings in San Mateo; and 2) how an historic district could be designated locally. Council has directed staff to require a community minimum of 50% in any future local historic districts and owner consent before any buildings are deemed individually eligible. There will be online and in-person opportunities throughout the summer and fall for San Mateans to share their views on this.

CENTRAL PARK PLAYGROUND UPDATE

ree

You may have noticed that the Central Park Great Lawn has been fenced off as part of the Central Park Playground Project. While the Playground is under construction, all Central Park events will occur either at Fitzgeral Field (aka the baseball field) or on Central Park’s East Lawns alongside 5th and Laurel Avenues (aka where Leon the Giraffe is).

The Playground Project is expected to take up to 2 years to complete. While this seems a very long time, this is because of the complexity of the project and the need to ensure public safety. Please check in on the City’s project webpage for any updates. This is a good read for anyone interested in the many facets of major City infrastructure projects.

Thanks for your patience while the City works hard to create an amazing space for future generations!

BAYWOOD LAMPS PAINTING

ree

Good news! the City's Public Works team has scheduled the inspection and repainting of street lamps in Baywood this summer.

While many lamps may be just fine, they will be looking to ensure the Baywood street lamps provide both good lighting and attractiveness.

One more way we can make Baywood the best it can be!
