BAYWOOD BULLETIN IMPORTANT COMMUNITY MEETINGS UPDATE

CHANGED DATE: THIS TUESDAY, JULY 18, 6-7:30 PM, CITY UPDATE ON FLOOD PREVENTION EFFORTS

Remember the terrible flooding we experienced in January at Arroyo Court, along San Mateo Creek and throughout San Mateo (see the photo above to jog your memory)?

Attend a meeting this Tuesday, July 18th (NOTE DATE CHANGE), 6 PM-7:30 PM, at the 3rd Ave. Library Main Branch, to get updated on the City's flood investigation, plans to protect San Mateo from future storms and flooding and what you can do to help. The City also will be looking for residents who experienced flooding to share their experiences and photos.

One of the main issues is the aging stormwater drain infrastructure across the City (50+ years old) and the lack of sufficient staff to maintain the drains, catchments etc. to ensure maximum readiness for future storms. The City, as a result, has prepared a comprehensive Community Flood & Storm Protection Initiative that aims to replace this out-dated infrastructure and strengthen our maintenance capabilities.

After 2 community surveys, San Mateo City Council approved a mail-in ballot this October/November supporting the introduction of an $8/month per household fee to protect our residents and businesses from flooding. Funding also is being sought from State and Federal sources.

Please join us this Tuesday, July 18, 6-7:30 PM, to learn more and voice your opinion. Share with your neighbors and San Mateo friends...all are welcome!

For more information on the Initiative, go to www.cityofsanmateo.org/stormwater or email publicworks@cityofsanmateo.org.

SAVE THE DATE: SAN MATEO GENERAL PLAN 2040, DISTRICT 1 MEETING, WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 6TH

The City will be asking the community if the draft plan reflects your ideas and to help prioritize what actions the City can take to address topics like:

- Climate change and sustainability

- Parks and public services

- Community design

- Public health and safety

- Housing and transportation

- And more!

This San Mateo General Plan 2040 will guide all initiatives in San Mateo for the next two decades, so it is important to be part of it. You can learn about the San Mateo General Plan 2040 effort: https://strivesanmateo.org/
